Adjournment Debate 19 March – Pre-97 Discretionary Increases

Government policy on discretionary increases for pre-97 pensions

At the close of the day, on Thursday, 19 March, in the House of Commons, the adjournment debate was led by Luke Akehurst, Labour MP for North Durham. This has been the most comprehensive and accurate debate ever on the subject of Discretionary Increases: Pre-1997 Pensions.

On behalf of all members of the Pre-97 Pension Justice Alliance, thank you, Steve Clare, leader of the Nissan pensioners, for your initiative and leadership in obtaining this debate at this important time while the Pension Schemes Bill is under consideration.

The nature and timing of this adjournment debate may have worked against a large turnout. However, there was tremendous quality in this debate. Less was absolutely more in this instance!

Many thanks to the following MPs who changed their plans at the last minute and spoke at the debate-

Luke Akehurst – Labour MP for North Durham

Dame Nia Griffith – Labour MP for Llanelli

Jesse Norman – Conservative MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire

Sir Julian Lewis – Conservative MP for New Forest East

Matt Rodda – Labour MP for Reading Central

Liz Twist – Labour MP for Blaydon and Consett

Thank you to every donor who has supported our campaign work. Your generosity has directly funded multiple  lobbying visits at Westmintser, allowing us to push for meaningful change for Pre-97 pensioners.

We still have ongoing costs to cover, and we expect to continue our lobbying efforts in the months ahead. Regular donations make a real difference and help us keep this work moving forward. Any continued support is genuinely appreciated and will be put to good use.
