Good news members!
Your letters to your MP seem to have created the political will to solve the Pre 97 problem.
But we are not “there” yet.
We need your help again to sustain political support and make more progress.
I ask you to write to your MP to cover the following points –
- We had been reassured by reports in the House and media that the data about Pre 1997 pension indexation was at long last being collected by DWP/TPR.
- But some of our members in the Alliance are reporting 2 worrying trends
- That their Trustees / pensions schemes have not been contacted
- That the questions asked are unlikely to collect the data needed to clearly see the Pre 1997 problem.
- It is our view that the current TPR survey may be insufficient for government to know the true scale of the problem.
- Please ask your MP to write to Debbie Abrahams MP asking for assurance that
- the TPR work will look at the whole pattern of discretionary increases (or lack thereof) since 2002
- include a representative sample of the 22% schemes that have not given discretionary increases
- ensure sufficient focus on the large schemes
- ask for the reasons why an increase was not given for each year it was declined
- Please ask your MP to write to Debbie Abrahams MP asking for assurance that
- If you want further support, just ask patricia@hppa.org.uk.
Thank you for your continued support. Hope to meet you at the Reading on 29 April, 2025.
Kind regards,
Patricia
