HPPA Update November 2024

Great Progress About Getting In Touch With Your MP.

There are 650 MPs; we have now been in touch by email, letter or face to face with
64!
We have had some disappointing replies repeating the party line from the last
government and we have had some very supportive replies. The number of
supportive ones seems to be increasing. Some of the names might surprise you!

This is great progress. We need to reach EVEN more in these early days of
government to get our Pre 97 pension injustice issue on their radar and especially on
the table of the new Work and Pensions Committee chaired by Debbie Abrahams.

We now know that the report from the previous Committee chaired by Sir Stephen
Timms’ was knocked off course by the election. All of our efforts in written and oral
submission of evidence may get left to gather dust unless we act together now while
the DPW is planning its work.

We have been asking our MPs for their help in getting one single item on the Work
and Pension Committee agenda.

“DWP/TPR undertake the research to understand the scale of the problem,
how many schemes have not granted pre-1997 discretionary increases over
many years and the reasons for this”

Once the problem is known, there undoubtedly will be a range of possible solutions.
But until the problem is known & visible, positive change is unlikely. Until the
research is done, solving the problem is like shooting in the dark.

If you have not written to or met with your MP, please consider doing so.
