HPPA March Update

Spring seems to have arrived in Scotland but who knows about the future? With the current insanity of world events, even the Scottish weather looks more predictable. Here’s a brief update about the HPPA campaign.

Spring is all about growth, isn’t it?  The Facebook group is now over 800.

And we do know that most of our HPPA & Alliance members do not use social media!

The Alliance has grown to 8 companies covering approximately 33K people. With at least 2 more companies considering joining.

Over 140 MPs have now been contacted. That’s more than 20% of the Parliament. This is a huge change from a year ago.

As a direct result of Central Ayrshire MP Alan Gemmell’s question on 11/11, a meeting was held with several MPs in January to prepare for a meeting with the Minister. That meeting was delayed by a change of Minister. However, the initial meeting became two meetings and finally occurred face to face and online.

We have succeeded in the first of our “4 asks”. We have written confirmation from the Minister Torsten Bell that at long last the research or recommendations to “do the research” to identify the Pre 97 problem is being done by the TPR (The Pension Regulator).

Thanks to the scrutiny of HPPA & Alliance members, potential problems with the data collection were spotted early and over 40 MPs have written to the Minister with their concerns. Surely that will result in accurate data, and you know we will be watching.

Through Professor Richard Moorhead Professor of Law and Professional Ethics at the University of Exeter, we have connected with 2 of the faculty and are discussing possible areas of collaboration.

Following our meeting with the Trustee last August, we received a response from the Trustee to the questions we raised after the meeting and are taking advice as we consider our next steps.

We have invested considerable time in preparing for our event in Reading on 29 April. We hope that you will come to the event and find out more especially about the planned next steps regarding the Trustee and Company.

How to keep with the campaign: as easy as 1,2,3!

You may have noticed that the pace of the campaign has accelerated. As Pensions
Schemes Bill 255 continues its path through Parliament, with an expected vote by
the end of the 2025, we are making and taking every opportunity possible for Pre-97
pension justice.
